Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. – King Solomon
A leader’s words – what he/she says and how they say it – is integral to their ability to motivate their teams. Leaders who are careless with their words are ineffective in the long run and will fail to bring out the best in their teams. Words can spark faith or ignite fear. Words can be the sinking man’s lifeline or a discouraged person suicide rope. Words can sow the seeds of hope or those of discouragement. Words can tear down or build up! Every great business, marriage, relationship, endeavor, started with a thought and was activated by the spoken word! Words can create worlds!
When I started dating my wife (almost 14 years ago), I discovered that she had a low self esteem and didn’t believe very much in her abilities. So I spent most of my time telling her what she could become, the greatness I saw in her and, focused a lot on her strength. I encouraged her to develop her skills and, as much as possible, created an environment in our relationship for her to grow. Today she is a very confident and successful Project Manager and, co-pastoring a local assembly in Kingston, Canada. She has big dreams and is constantly looking for ways to grow. The interesting thing is that she is now my biggest fan and encouragement. So the seeds I started sowing many years ago have not only benefited her but it’s now benefiting me (and our three children). The words we speak today will eventually come back to us as a curse or, a blessing!
Great leaders choose their words wisely and use them to navigate their teams towards a predetermined destination.
